What are Fats Oils & Greases?
Fats, Oils & Greases or FOG are a result of food preparation, cooking, production and other food related processes. The matter itself can be anything from lard to vegetable oils. Restaurants are known for having high levels of FOG.
A high level of FOG can lead to pipe blockages requiring time and money to restore.
How Can Fats, Oils & Greases Affect You?
High levels of FOG can result in major blockages as the sediment solidifies. In turn, this will create restrictions for water flow resulting in pipe leaks, blockages and breaks. The EPA considers equal to or more than 57mg/l to be of actionable quantity. If this level or more is discovered then fines may incur.
