Watermark Projects recently completed a project for a ready-meal manufacturer. Our client was having issues with fats, oils and greases within their wastewater, causing them to breach consent with their local water authority. Needing an effective solution that could be implemented quickly, they contacted the Watermark Projects team.
The first port of call for our team was to undertake an initial site investigation to determine the clients requirement and discuss potential solutions. On-site, our engineers were shown their current treatment system which consisted of a very high-end duty/assist Grease Trap which was underperforming and not effectively removing FOG.
To compare removal rates of their existing method vs a Watermark Projects DAF system, a spot sample of the untreated effluent was taken for analysis.

After using an Aluminium Chloride Coagulant and an Anionic Polymer to treat the spot sample, Watermark Projects were able to achieve removal rates of:
COD – 76.05%
Phosphorus – 98.08%
Suspended Solids – 96.60%
Fats, Oils & Greases – 98.58%
Following this analysis, as well as various design meetings with the client, Watermark projects proposed the following solution;
- Model 10 skid mounted Dissolved Air Flotation Unit (throughput capacity of up to 20,000 litres per hour)
- Midi Rotary Screen with base tank (for gross/free solids removal down to 2mm)
- 70m3 Balance Tank complete with Mechanical Agitation
- 30m3 HDPE Sludge Tank
To fulfil our clients urgent requirement, while accommodating their ongoing projects & capital expenditure, the solution was quoted on a long-term rental basis, with an option to purchase the unit afterwards.

As an urgent project, manufacture of the Model 10 DAF unit and Rotary Screen was prioritised at our Manchester fabrication facility to ensure a quick turnaround.
As the principal contractor for this project, we utilised our network of suppliers and enlisted TerraTank to provide a 70m3 Balance Tank from their hire fleet, capable of handling our client’s high flow rates.

Installation, Commissioning & Client Training (including additional training days to accommodate client engineer shift patterns) was completed by our in-house engineering team within 3 weeks of delivery.
With the system now up and running, and our customer back to achieving their discharge consent, Watermark Projects are thrilled to see another happy customer and we look forward to supporting them further moving forward.
